South Sussex RAYNET News January 2010 Group Meeting CancelledThe Group Meeting to be held on Thursday 7th January, has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Instead, a Call-in net will be held on 144.625MHz from 20:00 local time, to cover any outstanding issues. First Sussex Beacon Half Marathon DutyOn Sunday 22nd. February, South Sussex RAYNET was active for the first time this year, supporting Sussex Beacon for their annual half marathon around Brighton and Hove. Eight operators, including Roger G7VRB from Eastbourne and Wealden Group, took up positins around the course. This started from Madeira Drive, then went into the City up the London Road, returning to the sea-front via the Lanes, then out to the Lagoon, before returned to the start via the Marina. For the first time for many years, the Group employed a TTU, (Talk-Through Unit) to maintain radio coverage throughout the "concrete jungle" of the City centre. Unfortunately, the Group was not able to employ their newly acquired ECU because of technical problems. Exercise Chainlink IIIExercise Chainlink III took place on Sunday January 25th. Its format was slightly different from last year and it used 70cms, 4 metres, 6 metres and 23cms rather than 2 metres. For South Sussex RAYNET, Steve M0ZHX and Phill G7JRV went up to Jack and Jill car-park, Philip G4KIL went up to Steyning Bowl (I believe), while John G4BLJ and Martin M0ADY operated from their respective QTH. We await the official report. © 2010 South Sussex RAYNET Group |
